“On Innovations in Facilities Management for Sustainable Built Environment: Prospects and Challenges
August 07-08, 2022
Facilities management (FM) represents one of the fastest-growing real estate and construction sectors in many developed and developing countries. While, there is increasing focus on the FM for new buildings, the same focus is needed for existing buildings as facility managers of corporations are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of assets. IFMA described Facility management (FM) as a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality, comfort, safety, and efficiency of the built environment by integrating people, place, process, and technology.
Recently there has been a paradigm shift in facilities management where, starting from the commercial building managers to the government building and project bodies are riveting in maximizing effectiveness and saving money by evaluating their projects in view of the buildings life cycle cost. For this, Building Information Modelling (BIM) is considered to be a growing innovation in the construction sector and its implication in FM is prominent. Recent studies (Bortolini et al., 2016; Tahir et al., 2017; Pucko et al., 2017 and Halim et al., 2022) incorporated BIM implementation in the planning of maintenance cost for business storage facilities, in highway projects, university building management and maintenance and this shows that the need for BIM adoption is increasing. This conference will reflect those priorities by featuring innovations, solutions and perspectives on evolving developments that will help industry sector professionals understand and meet emerging challenges in maintaining and managing existing buildings.
- To recognize the issues and challenges in undertaking facilities management in both public and private buildings
- To provide a clear pathway in handling facilities management for existing buildings
- To develop implementable and integrated innovations to handle the crucial activities in facilities management
- To establish improvements in the application of BIM in facilities management especially in building maintenance management
